Pressing Offense and Two Assists by Jason Lotkowski '24 Drive Soccer to Victory
The Archmere soccer team's first win of the season came at home against Sanford on Tuesday, September 19th. With a 9-4 shot advantage and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks, Archmere defeated Sanford 2-0 to mark their first victory. Mason Kohl '26 was steadfast in goal, recording four saves.
Just two minutes into the game, the Auks earned a corner kick, setting the momentum for the rest of the match. Archmere controlled possession, but for the first eight minutes remained scoreless, even after two corner kick opportunities. By the eight minute, though, Jason Lotkowski '24 carried the ball down the left side and sent a cross into the box. Tiernan Matthews '26 came sliding in near the right post and knocked the ball into the net for the first goal.
Mike Lang of the Dialog detailed the next goal by writing, "After the Warriors forced a save by Mason Kohl early in the second, the Auks went back on the offensive. In the 47th minute, a Sanford defender tripped and was seated on the ground with the ball at his feet. As Fernau approached, Jason Lotkowski worked the ball free and sent it to Ethan Beach, who hit the empty net with the game’s second goal."
Archmere plays Thursday against St. Elizabeth at Banning Park at 3:45 p.m.
