Archmere Students and Faculty Participate in Global Studies Trip to Iceland
The Global Studies Program traveled to Iceland with thirty students and three chaperones for eight days over Easter break. It would be hard to determine what any one person liked the most: the majestic waterfalls and their occasionally frigid sprays? The endless miles of lava fields? Dressing up like Vikings at the Saga Museum? Or maybe seeing the brilliant Northern Lights three nights in a row. Perhaps it was hearing from their entertaining tour director the stories of Iceland’s legendary trolls and their connection to the beautiful landscape.
Whether students were learning some basic Icelandic phrases or finding physical and mental restoration in one of three geothermal spas, visiting the shops and restaurants of Reykjavik or gazing at the endless beauty outside their bus windows, they were experiencing everything with their friends, expanding their worldview, and maybe working toward becoming the global citizens we hope to create with this program.
With that purpose in mind, the next four international trips are scheduled and still accepting students: 1) a Norbertine Heritage and service trip to Prague, Kosice, and Budapest over Thanksgiving 2025, 2) an excursion over Easter 2026 to Costa Rica to study ecology and conservation, with some ziplining thrown in, 3) a trip through the history, culture, and food of Italy in June of 2026, and 4) the Spanish exchange trip to Colegio Virgen de Europa in Madrid. Opportunities for learning and adventure abound.
