St. Joe's Rugby Team Honors Mark Dombroski '17 at Tournament; Noah Niumataiwalu '16 Named MVP

On April 23rd, the Saint Joseph's Rugby team traveled to Santa Clara University in California to compete in the 2018 Jesuit Cup 7’s Championship. The team played for two days, winning the tournament after a Championship match over Notre Dame University and taking home the "Pope Francis Cup". In their first big tournament since the passing of their teammate and Archmere graduate Mark Dombroski '17, St. Joe's made time to honor Mark throughout the weekend, including a bagpipe tribute during a pre-tournament ceremony and a prayer with Notre Dame in remembrance of Mark out at midfield after the Championship match. Mark's teammate since his days at Archmere, Noah Niumataiwalu '16, was named MVP of the tournament.

As stated on the Hawk Rugby website, "It certainly was an emotional weekend for the Hawks as their fallen teammate Mark Dombroski (’21) weighed heavily on the team’s mind and the players credited their inspired performance to Mark. The tournament organizers named the MVP trophy in Mark’s honor which is known as the Jesuit Cup 7’s “Mark Lee Dombroski Most Outstanding Player” Award. It was only fitting that Noah Niumataiwalu, Mark’s high school and college teammate, would be the first recipient of the award after a fantastic performance for the Hawks all weekend."
