Grace Dignazio '18 Takes Second in State in Tennis

Grace Dignazio '18 made headlines with her "stellar" tennis season and career at Archmere. At the DIAA State Tournament on May 25th, Grace competed against Victoria Anyanwu of Dover High School for the state title in an intense, thrilling match.

Mike Lang of The Dialog writes, "She may have not taken the first singles title, but Archmere’s Grace Dignazio wrapped up a stellar high school tennis career with an impressive runner-up performance on May 25 at St. Andrew’s School in Middletown... Playing under a relentless sun, the pair started with a back-and-forth first set. Dignazio broke Anyanwu’s serve to tie it a 2-2, but the Senator broke her right back." He wrote of the second set, "After four games, the pair was tied. Dignazio took her first lead at 3-2 following a few unforced errors, but Anyanwu leveled it with an ace. They were tied again at three, four and five games apiece."

The Archmere tennis team went 12-2 this season, with Grace leading the First Singles division. She will continue playing tennis at the collegiate level, attending Swarthmore College this fall. During her signing, Grace stated, "I began tennis lessons when I was about eight, and I always enjoyed participating in summer camps and playing in clinics with my friends. As I got older, tennis became very important to me, and I continued my training at a more serious level at a junior training center in Philadelphia. I currently play about four or five times a week, and I am very excited to join Swarthmore's team in the fall and to continue pursuing tennis at a collegiate level."
