Phoebe Brinker '20 Wins Golf Title, Auks Take Third in the DIAA State Tournament

Archmere sophomore Phoebe Brinker collected five birdies, including a critical effort at 16 to win the 2018 DIAA Golf Championship by one shot at Odessa National Golf Club on May 30th. She battled back and forth with the first-round leader Austin Barbin of Red Lion for the Championship. The Auks team took home 3rd place, one shot behind Appoquinimink. Phoebe, who won the 2016 title, helped lead the golf team to an impressive 12-2-1 record this year.

Brad Meyers of The News Journal wrote of the championship match, "With two holes to play in the DIAA Golf Tournament, Phoebe Brinker didn’t know where she stood in relation to the other leaders. That made for some tense excitement at Odessa National Golf Club before Brinker, an Archmere sophomore, parred the final hole to finish two rounds at 4-under-par 140. That was just enough for a one-stroke victory over Barbin, a junior at Red Lion Christian, for the individual title."

This year, five of the top six finishers were females. This is the second DIAA individual title in three years for Phoebe, who also won two years ago as a Tower Hill eighth-grader.
