Continued Success for Girls' Field Hockey and Volleyball

With the Archmere volleyball team cheering them on from the sidelines, the girls' field hockey team defeated DMA at home 4-1. It was the first Diamond State Athletic Conference game for both squads. After a slow start, the Auks scored going into the second quarter as Lauren Ross '19 redirected a crossing pass from Grace Lairdeson '19 into the net and put the Auks on the board.

Mike Lang writes of the game, "The second half was a different story, as the Auks came out of the break with more purpose. They earned a penalty corner less than a minute into play and kept the pressure on throughout the half. It paid off at the 23:17 mark. Off another penalty corner, a shot deflected off the stick of Lairdeson into the cage to put the Auks up a goal." Archmere evened their record at 1-1 and are scheduled to play Wilmington Charter on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

The girls' athletic teams continued to make headlines that evening as the volleyball team defeated #2 Wilmington Charter at home, in front of a spirited crowd. Set scores were 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-19. Jason Winchell covered the game for The Dialog, writing, "Whether it was a big block by Lauren Edmiston or a diving dig by Hannah Wright, the Auks had a strong defensive match. They finished with 17 blocks and 12 aces in the win."

Archmere junior Julia Kochie lead the Auks with 18 kills, seven blocks, 12 digs and an ace. She had help from fellow junior Lauren Edmiston, who finished with seven kills and four blocks, and Hannah Wright '21 who had 16 digs. The Auks (3-0) travel to No. 7 Conrad on Tuesday for another Diamond State showdown starting at 6:30 p.m.
