Archmere Volleyball Team Wins Semifinals, Heads into Championship Game

Last night the Archmere volleyball team punched their ticket to the DIAA State Championship with a 4-set victory over defending-champion Ursuline. After a tight first set, Archmere won the final two sets decisively to down third-seeded Ursuline 3-1. The set scores were 26-24, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19.

Julia Kochie '20 led the Auks with 20 kills and 14 blocks, taking advantage of several of senior Sydney Niumataiwalu's 39 assists. The setter also had 13 digs, and even threw 3 blocks. Hanna Wright '21 helped the Auks with 18 digs.

“I think we just settled in and had fun, more than just being stressed out and tensed up,” said Auks junior Abigail Kates, who frustrated Ursuline’s hitters with a team-high seven blocks. “As soon as we started to have fun, we started to execute.”

Archmere advances to face Wilmington Charter on Monday night at 6:30 at the Bob Carpenter Center for the title. It's a rematch of the 2014 final, won by the Auks in 4 sets.
