Juniors Erin Pearson and Alexandra Williamson Named LLS Students of the Year

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Student of the Year Campaign is an exciting leadership development and philanthropy program in which high school students participate in a fundraising competition to benefit LLS and the mission to cure blood cancers. The candidate or team who raises the most money at the end of the program is named Student of the Year for their local chapter.

Archmere candidates Erin Pearson and Alexandra Williamson, both juniors, raised funds for LLS blood cancer research, competing in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors. With the help of the Archmere community over a seven week initiative, Erin and Alexandra raised a little over $90,000 and were named Students of the Year! The candidates from the northern Delaware chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society alone have raised over $397,000 over the course of the seven weeks. Erin and Alexandra are looking forward to funding a research portfolio (or potentially two) in their grandparents’ names.

In addition, several fundraising records for the Students of the Year Campaign in the Delaware Chapter were set this campaign period:
  • During Week 1, they raised the most ever in Delaware Student of the Year history, $65,000
  • There were FOUR research portfolios earned – another Delaware Student of the Year record
  • Together, the students in the Delaware chapter raised the most money in Delaware Student of the Year history, almost doubling what was raised last year
In 2017, Archmere Headmaster Dr. Michael A. Marinelli ‘76 also accepted the challenge and began his Man of the Year campaign. After raising over $30,000 with the help of 225 donors, Dr. Marinelli was named the 2017 Delaware Chapter's Man of the Year.

Congratulations to the 2019 Students of the Year, Erin and Alexandra!
