Former Archmere Football Coach and Teacher Joe Moglia Retires from Coastal Carolina Football

On January 18th, former Archmere football coach and teacher Joe Moglia stepped down as head coach of Coastal Carolina’s (CCU) football team, after spending six seasons there. With an overall record of 56-22, Joe Moglia led the Chanticleers to the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) post season in each of his first four seasons. As his coaching days were coming to an end, he reflected on his time at Archmere.

After graduating in 1971 from Fordham University he took the head coaching job at Archmere, becoming, at 22, the youngest head coach in the state's history. The building on campus that houses the Auks' gymnasium as well as weight and exercise rooms is named The Moglia Fieldhouse in his honor.

“My years at Archmere were some of the happiest I ever had,” Moglia said. In addition to coaching, he also taught European history, political science and economics courses. Because of the coach’s techniques and his “Be a Man” (BAM) philosophy, Archmere’s football teams increased their winning percentages.

Joe's impressive resume led him to be inducted into the Lombardi Hall of Fame in 2017. He is also a member of five other Halls of Fame including the Archmere Academy Sports Hall of Fame, the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, Omaha Business Hall of Fame, Fordham Preparatory School Hall of Honor, and Fordham Preparatory Sports Hall of Fame.
