Monthly College Counseling Update: September 2020

Admission Landscape

Drastic changes to testing policies, deadlines, and admission processes led to changes in the college counseling timeline. We instituted a senior check-in meeting during late summer early fall semester, before family meetings, in order to get a pulse of every student and answer questions. Required senior family meetings are in full swing and to date we’ve met with about half of our seniors and have approximately 70% scheduled. If a senior has not scheduled they can do so
here. To date, we have received over 400 application requests and will begin processing this week. The first deadline date of October 15th is right around the corner, with the biggest application deadline of 11/1 soon to follow.
Programming

Senior parents have been invited to our Financial Aid Night on Tuesday, October 6th. Varo Duffins from the Swarthmore Financial Aid Office will be presenting. Seniors were invited to schedule a practice admission interview on October 5th, 6th, or 7th with an admission or alumni interviewer.

Also, just over 100 colleges and universities have scheduled virtual admission visits to Archmere. A complete list can be found on CIALFO. Juniors and Seniors are welcome to attend. For more information about handling an online/virtual college search please review our newest blog College Admission Aukservation blog.

Future Programming

Typically we publish a College Counseling Calendar during the summer; however, with the uncertainty of the calendar we’re delaying committing to program dates for fear of conflicts. The required College Panel for the Class of 2022 will be in mid-November and we should have that date out after fall sports schedules are completely set. We will welcome five admission deans, directors, and admission readers to share their expertise with our students. Families are also welcome to attend. Individual meetings with juniors will follow in December and January.

Huge thank you to Mr. Jezyk and the entire Archmere community for coordinating the school-day SAT for seniors. The next administration will be October 14th. We’re very happy to provide an opportunity to sit for an SAT at a time where testing opportunities are scarce.
