Ms. Lauren Walton Leads Faculty/Staff Book Club on Neuroteach; Attends Boston Conference
Archmere Learning Specialist Ms. Lauren Walton is currently running a Faculty/Staff Book Club on Neuroteach, and recently attended the Learning and the Brain conference in Boston. The conference was titled "Calming Anxious Brains", and focused on teaching and treating students with anxiety, trauma, depression, and academic learning loss. Learning & the Brain connects educators to the latest research in the science of learning and its potential application to education. Ms. Walton has extensive experience in the mind, brain and education, and has been an invaluable addition to the the Archmere community this year.

After earning a degree in Business Administration from SUNY Geneseo, Lauren began her career in business. Although she spent four rewarding years working in Fortune 500 companies, she decided to be adventurous and indulge an interest in international travel that had blossomed when she studied abroad at Oxford University as an undergraduate. Lauren bought a one-way ticket to Greece in 2007, where she earned a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate to teach English overseas. Lauren taught in China and South Korea for several years before returning to the U.S. to earn a graduate degree in education from The University of Pennsylvania. She has been an ESL (English as a Second Language) Director, AP teacher, Director of College Counseling, and Reading/Learning Specialist at independent and charter schools in Buffalo, NY, and the greater Philadelphia area for over a decade. Ms. Walton developed an interest in MBE (Mind, Brain, Education) science and will delightedly talk your ear off about educational neuroscience and social-emotional learning. She is thrilled to be joining the Archmere community and bringing a wealth of knowledge and curiosity about research-based, innovative educational practices to empower students with effective learning strategies that help them develop self-efficacy.
Students Participate in Best Delegate Model UN Training Conference
Leo Chang '23 (South Africa) and David Cui '24 (Cuba) both won Honorable Mention awards for their participation in the Best Delegate Model UN Training Conference on November 20. The Best Delegate MUN Training Conference is a one-day online conference where students make speeches, debate, and work together to come up with solutions to world issues. Leo and David were tasked with the "Reducing Poverty" committee.
Zimo Liu '25 Wins Grand Prix Concerto Award
This month Archmere 9th grader Zimo Liu entered the Triumph Music Concerto Competition and played the Grieg Piano Concerto no. 1, for which he won the Grand Prix Award - the highest award of this competition.
