Monthly College Counseling Update: March 2022

Seniors

Next week the Class of 2022 will participate in a reinvented senior career program. The pandemic has made guaranteeing job shadowing unlikely. This year we will roll out our first Young Alumni Panel during April 6th's Green Day. We will be welcoming six alumni who will discuss their college experiences, forks in their education and career mindset, their early career trajectory, and where they envision their futures. The day promises to be educational. Thank you to Catherine Reigner for coordinating the career and alumni event.

The final round of admission decisions will be released Thursday evening and the race for students to decide where they will enroll commences. April will be about final campus visits, financial aid discussions, and family discussions about our Auks' futures. This time period can be celebratory, frustrating, stressful, and exciting. In the end our seniors will select a college to be their new home that will provide them with an education that will prepare them for their futures, full of opportunities to be had and new classmates to forge relationships with. Opposite to our sports teams' motto and beliefs, it’s the name on the back of the jersey that is most important - our students control their destinies and will determine the level of their successes.

Senior College Coffee - Our first Senior College Coffee will be before school next Thursday, April 7th. We will invite seniors to gather and discuss their college choices and share how they plan to decide where they are enrolling. We do so by bribing them with coffee and donuts. It’s always a fun discussion. We will have a second Senior College Coffee after spring break.

College Decision Day Celebration - We will celebrate our seniors on Friday, May 6th with a modified schedule. For the first time in three years, we will gather the Class of 2022 on the front steps of St. Norbert Hall with their college t-shirts and sweatshirts for a class photo, a tradition we’ve missed for too long.

Juniors

90% of Junior Family Meetings are complete or scheduled. Thank you to the Class of 2023 for your attention to this requirement. It’s been a pleasure learning more about you; your hopes, preferences, and desires.

A majority of the Class of 2023 is visiting campuses over spring break. Please make the most of any time-off or flexible opportunities to get on campuses. We look forward to talking with you upon our return to Archmere.

IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING!! - We’re excited to share some upcoming dates with you.

DAIS College Fair at St. Mark's HS - All Archmere families are welcome to attend our first in-person college fair in two years. The program is Wednesday, April 27th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Over 100 colleges will be in attendance. A list will be shared closer to the event. Please mark your calendars.

DAIS Case Studies & College Fair Program - Delaware Independent Schools will be sponsoring this program on Monday, May 16th at Salesianum School. All families are welcome to attend. Admission representatives from around the country will participate in an application reading exercise with students and parents to educate families on the process of how schools review applications and make decisions. The program will conclude with a college fair. Registration soon.

Why Health Science?
 - As part of our career programming series, we will be offering three panels the evening of May 19th at Archmere. The event will commence with a College Admission & Medical School Panel and follow with the option of an Allied Health Panel or Physicians Panel. Registration details forthcoming.
