Boys Basketball Powers Past Newark Charter
In the Diamond State Athletic Conference opener for both teams on January 4 at the Moglia Fieldhouse, Archmere controlled the fourth quarter after a back-and-forth third to defeat Newark Charter, 40-29. After a slow start, the Auks went into the half with a 12-10 lead thanks to senior Miles Kempski's shot with 10 seconds left on the clock.
With a little less than 6 minutes left in the third quarter, the Patriots had a 14-12 lead. Miles Kempski '24 set the pace for the Auks with a three-pointer shortly thereafter, and Drew Duncan '24 made a pair of free throws and another bucket to bring the Auks back up. Charlie Malloy '25 hit a three-pointer to send the game into the fourth quarter tied at 25.
Miles Kempski '24 led the Auks with 14 points, and Drew Duncan '24 added 8. The team takes on First State Military at home at 6:15pm on January 8th.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Archmere offensive effort. Charlie Malloy '25 once again hit a three-pointer 45 seconds into the fourth to put the Auks on top for good. Matt Malloy '24 found himself all alone under the hoop for a layup, and on the other end, the Patriots struggled to get anything to fall. They made just two shots in the quarter, and the Auks stretched the lead with buckets from Matt Malloy '24, Riley Schultz '25 and, for their final points, a nice layup by P.J. Blessington '24 with an equally nice assist to Drew Duncan '24. Archmere made four of six free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
