Interest Meeting for Nicaragua Trip in November

On Thursday, March 14, Chuck Selvaggio, founder of the Wilmington-based Neighbors to Nicaragua, spoke to students who are interested in traveling to Nueva Esperanza, Nicaragua, to tutor students in Spanish at Centro de Oportunidad, the school Mr. Selvaggio built in 2011. Mr. Dougherty, head of the Global Studies Program, is hoping to travel to Nicaragua with 8-12 students (grades 10-12) over Thanksgiving break in 2024. With the support and guidance of the school's staff, Archmere students would teach basic reading skills to the children in the barrio of Nueva Esperanza and likely join them on a day-long excursion, perhaps to a waterpark. The March 14 tag day raised $800 for Mr. Selvaggio's organization. Contact Mr. Dougherty for more details.

Junior Portfolio 3D Design in the Building Phase of Three Week Project

Junior Portfolio 3D Design students have been hard at work building their site-specific architectural models and constructing their found object apparel design projects. In this course, students are given a choice of which project they would like to create and the building phase is the culmination of a carefully sequenced design thinking process. Students were challenged to either elevate, transform, or recontextualize an everyday undervalued material into a wearable work of apparel, or to design a site-specific architectural model of a client of their choosing, incorporating green and solar energy features and other environmentally-sensitive materials.

After completing prototypes, material investigations, and scaled technical drawings, students have now shifted into the creation and building phase of the 3-week project. The final design solutions will be on display at our upcoming student Fine Art Festival showcase, Friday April 26th from 5-8pm. Register for our Fine Arts Fest here!
