Archmere Choir Participates in Tour of Italy and Performs For Papal Audience

During Easter Break, Archmere Academy’s award-winning choir, the Mastersingers, took the stage during a Tour of Italy that included concerts for the cities of Rome and Naples as well as a concert at an Italian music conservatory near Pompei. They also performed for the Papal Audience on April 4 and sang for High Mass at the Duomo.

On March 28, the Mastersingers gave a preview of their Italy program and sang a premiere of a piece commissioned and written for the group in memory of fellow Mastersinger Anthony Penna ‘19. The piece is titled “Psalm 150” by the composer Michael John Trotta, one of the new rising stars in the choral composition world. CBS 3 from Philadelphia attended the March 28 assembly to do a story about the trip and the world premier of the commission piece.

The Mastersingers have also been invited back to perform at Carnegie Hall in March 2019.
