The Campus Ministry program is inspired by the Archmere mission statement and our belief in developing the whole person. We provide opportunities for students to develop intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually through our Retreat and Liturgy Programs, Service Trips and Community events. The program seeks to challenge every member of the Archmere Community in their personal and communal development of faith, respectful of religious backgrounds and traditions. In this, the program hopes to focus on the wholeness of each person recognizing all as children of God deserving love and respect.
Catholic values serve as a foundation. Each day begins with a student leading morning prayer and a daily Mass is offered each day. However, Campus Ministry programs are ecumenical in mission and scope. All students are welcomes to share in the mission of the department as well as the activities and services it sponsors.
In addition to offering daily Mass, Campus Ministry offers students opportunities to fill specific roles with our monthly liturgies, such as: Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Alter Servers, or Musicians. While our liturgies are conducted according to the Roman Catholic tradition, students of other faiths are encouraged and welcomed to participate in any way possible during our community celebrations.
Service Immersion Trips
Each year Campus Ministry also sponsors week long service trips to destinations that offer the opportunity to work with impoverished communities, as well as experience new cultures such as those in the Appalachian region or on Indian Reservations. These service immersion trips are often times the most unique and rewarding experiences of our students’ lives.
Kairos Retreat Program
This retreat program is one of the most involved and enriching of all the opportunities that Campus Ministry has to offer. Every class is offered a full day retreat during the school year, which is designed and led with the help of the students themselves. The Kairos retreat is a 3 and half day retreat for Juniors and Seniors which is offered three times a year. Kairos is the largest program run by Campus Ministry, and is considered by many to be the best experience of their Archmere career.
It is the goal of Campus Ministry to give students a chance to demonstrate their leadership and creativity while expressing, deepening, and reflecting on their faith. The Campus Minister and Chaplain operate on an Open Door policy for students so that they can have yet another resource for support, counsel, recreation, and community building. More details may be found in the student Handbook, or by contacting the Campus Minister at extension 780.
