Zinah Avendano Flores '27 Highlighted on Broadcast Journalism Podcast
Since 1968, KYW Newsradio has given high school students the opportunity to learn about broadcast journalism through the Newstudies student reporter program. This month, Archmere junior Zinah Avendano Flores was selected to participate in the KYW Newstudies program and her excerpt was featured on a podcast on December 14th. Zinah's KYW story was an interview with fellow Archmere junior Tanisha Khandelwal, and Tanisha's work with LiquidHope, a student-led organization that aims to supply patients with medically prescribed thickened liquids without a worry of the cost. Newstudies is sponsored by Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication.
Students come to the KYW Newsradio studios to learn news writing, reporting, ethics and interviewing skills from station managers, editors, reporters, anchors and guest speakers. They research, write and record news stories about their schools and communities. On the December 14th podcast, Zinah interviewed her classmate Tanisha, highlighting the student-led work with LiquidHope. Tanisha is a founding member of the foundation that aims to raise funds, distribute thick water, and relieve dysphagia for patients who cannot afford the care. Zinah is an Editor of the Archmere student run newspaper, The Green Arch.
