Newly Formed Pickleball Club Hosts First Tournament for Charity

The newly formed Pickleball Club came to play and give back! Their first tournament was a smashing success for a great cause. Earlier this month, 28 doubles teams comprised of teachers, alums, current students, current parents and friends, came out to compete and have fun, raising $600 for the charity Sam's KIDS (play for Sam), a non-profit that helps provide necessities for at-risk youth.

The Pickleball Club is led by students Marlise Harris, Josie Fiss, Sophie Wang, and Alaina Thomas.
Memoir Tour with College Composition and Literary Analysis

Students in Mrs. Valerie Wright’s College Composition and Literary Analysis course are currently learning about memoir, and in addition to reading one, students are writing their own mini memoirs. In the multimedia project, they'll combine literary techniques like dialogue, imagery, and characterization with music and personal images and videos to recount and explore specific experiences from their lives that demonstrate a particular theme that they see across the story of their lives so far.

"Since Archmere plays such an important role in their formation, I asked the class to give me a Memoir Tour, where they chose a special place on campus that highlighted something significant for them" Mrs. Wright said. "Whether the location is connected to a singular moment or it symbolizes their four years at Archmere, my goal was for my students to share an emotionally relevant spot, and to reflect on what specific emotions it conjures in them.

"I saw this as a way to further develop their skills of writing with vivid sensory imagery and to articulate in written expression why they feel its connection to what will literally be a chapter of their lives for this class. I'm grateful as a teacher to be able to do things like this with my students, and grateful that they have such a special, unique campus on which to experience these years."

AP Spanish and Art Classes Enjoy Cross-Curricular Project

This month Mrs. Denise Perez's AP Spanish class visited the Introduction to Drawing class during their on site project of drawing the Patio. This served as a cross-curricular experience for the AP Spanish students and Ms. Briggs' and Mrs. Lykos' art classes to understand how creativity takes shape in drawing and ceramics. They observed student work, interviewed students, and reported their findings.

Annual New York City Art Trip

The Junior Portfolio 2D Design and Advanced Placement 2D & 3D classes visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Friday, December 5th. Students researched and explored the collection, and will be creating their own original work of art inspired by a piece of art from the collection in the Manor studios upon returning to campus. Students enjoyed a family-style Italian dinner at the famous Carmine's restaurant in Time Square before heading to Broadway to see Aladdin!

The Story of Jonah, Told Through Motion

9th grade Theology classes studied The Book of Jonah and demonstrated comprehension skills through a bodily-kinesthetic modality. Students were grouped in trios or quads to present an assigned section of the Scripture. One student in each group did the narration, while others in the group used mime to role-play the key points. The goal of those miming was to portray the events of the story with neither props nor spoken word, but rather, through motion.

HRAI Students Shine at Recital

The Helena Raskob Arts Institute presented a general Student Recital on November 7th. Participants in the HRAI include pianists, singers, string players, and harpists who study music with private teachers. Also featured were five of the Middle School Talent Expo award winners. The program was a wonderful tribute to Archmere students who excel in the study of music. The audience enjoyed the outstanding performance in the Patio and the reception on a very pleasant Friday evening.
