On SaturdayOctober 4, the Archmere football team competed against Wilmington Friends in a battle between two of the state's top teams, defeating the Quakers 28-6 on the road. The win continues a trend for the Auks in their matchups with the Quakers: they've now won three in a row.
Archmere Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but senior captain Michael Donovan stood fout or his outstanding performance - he rushed for 40 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 36 receiving yards for the second touchdown. Another playmaker was fellow captain and senior Ryan Hagenberg, who rushed for 61 yards and one score on only eight carries.
The defense stepped up as well, laying out the Friends Quarterback three times. Senior captain Noah Blessington was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
The Auks will host the Mt. Pleasant Green Knights for Homecoming at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
