The Global Studies trip to Eastern Europe over Thanksgiving break was a fun and exciting experience for ten students and three Archmere teachers.
Starting in the beautiful city of Prague–meeting Father Henry and staying in the Strahov Abbey–the students walked around the city, toured cathedrals, visited the Strahov Library, and attended Mass. Then, they took an overnight train to Kosice, Slovakia, where they connected with Abbot Martin. Everyone learned the history of the town and tried so much new food. Then they visited the Premonštrátske Gymnasium, where Archmere’s current exchange students go to school, and also toured the Jasov Abbey. Finally, the students arrived in the city of Budapest, taking day trips from there. Students traveled to Zsambek to meet Sister Katalin and all the other nuns that live there, and toured the ruins of a 13th Century Norbertine church. Everyone participated in community service by packing and distributing food, and playing with children at their daycare. They also visited the Norbertine school in Godollo where they got to meet other students and participate in activities organized just for them. Lastly, they boarded a river cruise and the next day enjoyed the Szechenyi Baths. This trip was a moving experience and everyone came home feeling thankful they were able to engage in these new cultures.
