Archmere Dramatics Presents "The Drowsy Chaperone"

Archmere Academy Drama Club presents its winter musical, The Drowsy Chaperone.  With book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, the comedy that happens to be a musical, took the Tony Awards by storm in 2006. Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Golden Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another.
With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a forgetful hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.

Senior Colin Mosley stars as Man in Chair. Senior Brianna Cubbler stars as the bride, Janet van DeGraff with her groom, Robert Martin played by sophomore Benjamin Yi. Junior Katie Savitsky plays the title Chaperone and fellow junior Genevieve Lunger plays the best man, George. Hosting the wedding, Mrs. Tottendale (CC Kittila ’26) joins her beloved butler, Underling (Oskar Ploszaj ’27). The wedding guests who are trying to stop the festivities include seniors Don Bogey (Feldzig), Gretchen Tonn (Kitty), sophomore Anne Shaposky ‘28 (Aldolpho) and two crazy gangsters posing as pastry chefs (Alice Trainer ’27 and Reagan Gardiner ‘28). Isabelle Kim ‘27 is featured as Trix the Aviatrix.

Over forty students will be a part of the wonderfully talented cast and crew. The show is directed by Mr. Brian Manelski, assistant director Mme. Mar Tonn, choreography by alumnus Christina Lawless ‘10, with musical direction by alumnus Pat D'Amato '08.

The show will be performed in the Rocco A. and Mary Abessinio Performing Arts Center on the campus of Archmere Academy over two weekends: Friday and Saturday February 27-28, and March 6-7 at 7pm.
