Swim Team Competes at DIAA State Championship Meet
The Archmere Swim Team competed in the DIAA Swimming & Diving Championship Finals on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The State Preliminaries were held during the week, with Finals taking place all day Saturday at the University of Delaware. The State Championship Meet is a qualifying meet, and sixteen members of the Archmere team competed in the Prelims, at which several members earned a spot in Finals. In addition, Archmere freshman Elizabeth Guo was chosen to sing the National Anthem at the boys’ preliminaries.
Evie Connolly '29 and Jenny Mersic ’29 qualified for individual events for the girls, along with Katie Hickey '26, Grace Biester '28, and Anna Wheeler ‘29, who competed in the relays. Lucas Xun ’29 qualified for individual events at Finals, along with Luca Anerino ’26, Grady Wheeler ’27, John Pyne '28 and Forrest Klinger ‘27, who qualified for the relays.
Due to the snow storm, preliminaries were pushed back and the girls swam Friday evening with Finals on Saturday. Individually, Jenny Mersic placed 6th in the 100 Breaststroke and 9th in the 200 IM, and Evie Connolly placed 13th in the 200 Freestyle and 15th in the 100 Freestyle. The 200 Medley Relay of Katie Hickey, Jenny Mersic, Grace Biester and Anna Wheeler placed 9th overall, while the 200 Free Relay of Jenny Mersic, Grace Biester, Evie Connolly, and Anna Wheeler also placed 9th overall.
The boys swam prelims Thursday evening with Finals also on Saturday. Individually, Lucas Xun finished 12th in the 200 IM and 16th in the 100 Breaststroke. The 200 Medley Relay of Grady Wheeler, Lucas Xun, John Pyne, and Luca Anerino placed 6th overall, and the 200 Free Relay of Grady Wheeler, Forrest Klinger, John Pyne and Lucas Xun placed 14th overall.
