Posters for the Planet Club Debuts at Activity Fair

Led by sophomores Sophia Silverman '28 & Ceci Nowak '28, Posters for the Planet is a new club that invites students to identify a global issue of personal relevance, present the topic to their peers, and then work together as a team to design creative posters and graphic designs to communicate the issue, share action strategies, and reinforce their relevance to the community. The club made its debut at the Activity Fair on September 16th.
Lauren Walton to Present at the Festival of Education

Archmere Learning Specialist Ms. Lauren Walton was invited to speak at the Third Annual Festival of Education on October 4th. Her presentation, "The Science of Everything: Bringing Evidence-Based Practice to Students", discusses how Ms. Walton designed the Archmere class, "The Science of Everything." Ms. Walton will present at 4:00pm.

Inspired by Dr. Laurie Santos's "The Science of Well-Being" at Yale, this class utilizes an inquiry framework and synthesizes insights from positive psychology, the science of learning, and various other "sciences." Participate in some activities that I use in class and join a community to discuss creative ideas for bringing evidence-based practice to students!

Painting Class Explores Abstract Expressionist Art Making

Mrs. Silverman's Painting classes have been exploring a variety of surface development approaches using acrylic on canvas with unconventional tools to explore mark, pattern, and line. In addition to technical instruction in color mixing and blending to achieve representational realistic art, students are also exposed to expressive possibilities of non-representational and more improvisational art processes.

AP Studio Art 2D Design Portraits

Advanced Placement (AP)  Studio Art 2D Design students have been hard at work creating portraits in pastel and charcoal on black paper, refining technical drawing skills and exploring the AP concept of "synthesis:" a coalescence of materials processes and ideas to create original college-level works of art.

Archmere Hosts Faculty Lunch and Learn

On Friday, September 26, Archmere hosted Dr. Dahra Williams, our cooperating psychologist, for a Lunch & Learn session for Archmere faculty centered on demystifying the evaluation process used to diagnose learning differences and recommend educational accommodations. Lauren Walton, Archmere's Learning Specialist, followed up with some insight into how students' documentation is transferred into Formal Education Plans that support their learning and well-being.
