Archmere Academy Welcomes Jaime Espinal as Wrestling Coach
Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware, welcomes Jaime Espinal as wrestling coach. Jaime comes to Delaware from the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, where he trained and mentored many aspiring wrestlers. Most known for being the first Olympic medalist in wrestling for Puerto Rico when he won silver in the 2012 London Olympics, Jaime was also a flag bearer for Puerto Rico in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to being an accomplished wrestler, Jaime is an avid dancer and spent several years performing in groups, and as a backup dancer for hip hop artists. Jaime has an extensive history working with children, dating back to when he developed a youth program in Puerto Rico prior to his Olympic journey.
Jaime’s record of excellence on and off the mat, with an emphasis on building quality young men prepared for life after wrestling, closely parallels Archmere Academy’s mission of preparing students for every good work. On joining Archmere Academy, Jaime expressed that "God has blessed me with so many great things in my life, I want to share all the great gifts God has given and make an impact on others."
“Jaime brings a championship pedigree to our wrestling program. He has a wonderful story. He has competed and been successful on the world's biggest stage. He will bring all those values and intangibles that have made him successful to our school and our athletic program. As accomplished and as talented as he is, he is an even more incredible person,” says Nick Sanna, Director of Athletics at Archmere Academy. In addition to coaching at Archmere, Jaime will also take on a coaching position at United WC to aid in the development of the next generation of young wrestlers.
Jaime will be on campus to welcome students and their families during the Archmere Academy Open House on Sunday, October 26 at 1:00 pm. For more information, visit www.archmereacademy.com/admissions.
